How Did Anne Frank Maintain Her View of Humanity?

Anne Frank was born June 12, 1929. For her thirteenth birthday, she received a diary that would become her legacy.

In 1942, escaping Nazi persecution, Anne Frank’s family was forced into hiding. Her family hid for two years in different rooms of her father’s office building before being caught. Her family of four was joined by four more people, and before long close quarters began to get to them. But still, Anne had her studies and her diary to help get her through her days.

Her diary was written from the time just before they went into hiding, until they were captured in July, 1944. She died seven months later (early March, 1945) in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp from typhus.

The Frank’s neighbor and friend kept what little belongings they had left behind for when they returned. Unfortunately, the only one who did return was Anne’s father. He read his daughter’s diary and decided to have it published in 1947. Today it is one of the world’s most read books and has been published in over 60 different languages. Why? Because it is an amazing story of a young girl who, even through horror and adversity, was able to maintain a positive view of humanity.

Anne Frank maintained her view of humanity through the terrible adversity and abusiveness in her life by sticking to the core belief that all people had some good in them. She wrote in her diary, “It’s a wonder I haven’t abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical. Yet I cling to them because I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.”

To think that a fourteen-year old girl was the one writing this diary in these terrible times is almost unimaginable. She relied a lot on the strength of her family, friends and God to keep her spirits up and to try to make peace with all the chaos that was happening around her.

She had her moments of feeling down, but keeping her diary helped her step away from the situation that she was in. Just like watching a movie or reading a book takes you to another place, writing in her diary helped Anne to escape in her mind.

Some might say that she was just a child and didn’t fully understand all that was happening around her. She could keep up her ideals of “everything is going to be OK,” because ignorance is bliss, and what she didn’t know wouldn’t affect her. However, after you read what Anne has written and the way she expresses herself, it is hard to entertain the thought that she didn’t know everything that was happening around her.

Over those two years she was forced to face things and grow up faster than any child should have to. It’s hard to even think about the things that she must have gone through.

Anne Frank was just one of those amazing people that had a positive energy and spirit about her. She showed hope and innocence when all was thought to be gone. For this she will always be remembered.

How to Handle a Verbal Attack

I’m sure you have been their. Some asks you a question that takes a shot at you and you are forced to defend yourself, perhaps in front of several if not hundreds of people. Maybe they asked why you messed up on that project, or why you can’t remember to pick up the necessary paper work. What ever the attack might be, their are simple and effective ways to handle these problems.

I want to start out with the act of getting defensive. When someone attacks us and tries to belittle us, they want us to get defensive. So if this is what they want us to do, then we need to turn it around and go on the offensive. It is tough for our simple human nature wants us to instantly defend ourselves when approached with something we did wrong, or something we seemed to do wrong. Let’s use an example that someone asks you ” So when are you going to Stop Speeding and slow down, Are you Stupid?” Now this is a shot at you. They want to make you feel bad and you will want to defend yourself instantly. If you do, STOP and THINK. You must turn this around but how. If you start to explain yourself, then you automatically lose the battle. So turn it around immediately. Say to them something like “How does me speeding make me stupid?, have you ever sped in your life?” This immediately turns it around on them and gets the heat off of you. They are now forced to defend what they threw at you.

Another great tactic to use when faced with these kind of questions if having them rephrase the question. If you don’t want to answer that question, your best bet is to have them rephrase their question so it isn’t so bad. Using the previous example you could say ” What do you mean?” it’s similar to thew first one because this might make them defend themselves right away, but at least they will have to explain why they think their question makes sense, whether it truly does or not. The way they reward the next question will be less offensive and will probably be easier to deal with, if not, just continue to go offensive till the issue is resolved.

These tactics will cause a would be argument to fizzle out before it gets started. They are great to use in relationships and with family disputes and close friends. They can be applies to any situation and I guarantee you will have great results if you use these simple tactics.

The Rights of Every Employee

With the worldwide recession, everyone needs a job, and for many, stability plays a big role to their sanity. If you lose your job and don’t know when your next paycheck comes, you could become a very bitter person who will resent everything that he or she has. Just because you’re an employee and not the owner of the organization, you have your own rights. Unfortunately, not many people are aware of the power that they have. When they get unfairly dismissed, they simply walk out the doors looking dejected.

You don’t need to be a victim. If you know that you’ve done well and that your position is still crucial for the organization, you can seek legal counsel. Right now, your job would require that you research a bit about the employee rights in your area. Usually, your rights rely on these basic aspects:

1. Your legal rights

2. The contract that you signed upon joining the organization

Aside from that, here are some of the rights you need to know you have:

1. You’ve gained stability as soon as you’ve passed the probationary period.

2. If you’ve committed an offense, see what the handbook says about the repercussions. Usually, warning letters are sent before the employer takes drastic measures. If you haven’t received notice of any kind, make sure that you mention this with your attorney so he can take a closer look at the details involved.

3. You need to have a detailed compensation for the work rendered. If there’s discrepancy in anything, that will reflect poorly on the employer, and not on you. The holidays and overtime compensation (if there are any) should be included in the clause. And when signatures have been affixed at the bottom, this is proof that you may need when you file a legal complaint.

4. Deductions that are mandated by law must not be withheld, especially when it comes to the wages of the employees.

5. If you’re earning minimum wage, you may have the benefit of a tax shield. Research on the details and make sure that the guidelines are applied to you.

6. Check if there are associations that also help you with your cause.

7. The expected tasks for the title given to you. If you’ll be asked to do more, then this could also be a sign that the employer is exercising the power he has over you. This isn’t to say that you turn down the opportunity to go that extra mile. This could actually a test for you to see just how much you can handle. But when you feel that you’re not getting any growth and yet your number of tasks have increased, it is time to bring the matter up with your boss. If you see that you’ve been taken advantage of, it lets the higher ups now that you need to be compensated accordingly.

8. The compensation you need to get when you’ve been terminated. You still need to get that partial 13th month bonus even when you don’t finish the year.
